ST MARY'S UNIVERSITY

The School of Education at St Mary's University welcomes everyone with a passion for education. St Mary's has been training teachers for almost 175 years. We work with undergraduate and postgraduate students across a wide range of programmes, including primary and secondary teacher training routes. We offer professional development opportunities for teachers and are in partnership with more than 500 schools and other external organisations. Our provision has been graded as‘Outstanding' by Ofsted over the course of three inspections: 2011, 2018 and 2024.

Our offer to partner schools in the international community:

St Mary's has received accreditation from the Department for Education to deliver International QTS from September 2024 and we will offer the iPGCE from September 2025. Both courses have been designed with the needs of international educators at the centre, allowing professional development relevant to your context.

We understand the nuances of international teaching and have designed courses that support education for international-mindedness and inclusion, underpinned by the DfE Teachers' Standards. The courses provide flexibility for trainees, enabling them to train where they live and work. Lectures are delivered by highly experienced and passionate tutors who share their areas of expertise and encourage reflection and consideration for trainees' contexts.

Our courses for international educators include:

- iQTS [International Qualified Teacher Status] Trainees will complete a minimum of 120 days in school and complete four modules focusing on responsive teaching, curriculum inquiry, education for global citizenship, and school experience. Upon successful completion of the course where they will be assessed against the Teachers' standards, trainees will be awarded QTS.

- iPGCE [International Postgraduate Certificate in Education] This course will be first offered from September 2025. We will be accepting applications from November 2024.

- International Professional Development St Mary's has been working with international schools to identify Professional Development needs. We have created a suite of Continuous Professional Development modules and can create bespoke sessions to meet the needs of individual schools.
