University of Northampton

University of Northampton (UON) is a forward-thinking institution based in the heart of England, committed to transforming lives and inspiring change. Known for its inclusive and supportive learning environment, UON combines academic excellence with a strong focus on employability, innovation, and social impact. We have been working in Thailand for the past 15 years with our overseas partner at the Village International Education Centre to deliver bespoke CPD, an MA in Special Educational Needs and Inclusion in-person, and now iQTS which can be studied alongside a PGCEi or as a standalone qualification.

Key Course for overseas study:

  • iQTS (International Qualified Teacher Status) Programme – an internationally recognised route to QTS, ideal for teachers working in international schools who want to gain a UK teaching qualification while remaining in their current role. For those studying in Thailand, in-person teaching and on-placement visits are a further benefit. Course content is informed by experts in International Schools in Thailand and is further strengthened by our collaboration with both Chulalongkorn and Srinakharinwirot Universities in Bangkok.

  • Accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) – flexible, high-impact modules and short courses for in-service teachers, including online delivery options and pathways to qualifications such as the MA in Special Educational Needs and Inclusion.

  • Bespoke CPD – tailor-made professional development programmes for international schools, designed to meet the specific needs of your staff which can be delivered online or in-person. Previous workshops have been held at The Rugby School (Pattaya) and Kings College (Bangkok).

Turing Scheme in Thailand: The University of Northampton has also looked at further ways to strengthen our working partnerships with International Schools and one way of doing this has been through the Turing Scheme. This scheme enables trainee teachers from England to work alongside International Schools on a short placement (typically two weeks) to develop their cultural awareness and understanding of working in schools abroad as a way of increasing their cultural capital and broadening their horizons.

In addition to the overseas route to teacher training and QTS, we also offer various education and teacher training courses that can be studied with us in England:

Primary Education 5-11 (QTS) PGCE | University of Northampton
BA Primary Education Degree 5-11 with QTS | UON
