The University of Warwick's Centre for Teacher Education offers world-leading Initial Teacher Education and ongoing postgraduate qualifications.
Three international programmes are available to FOBISIA members:
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (with iQTS)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (International)
- MA Professional Education
At its most recent inspection, the Centre was awarded ‘Outstanding’ provider status.
OUR PGCE iQTS AND PGCEi COURSES
Designed in consultation with FOBISIA Heads, and assessed to UK teaching standards, the PGCE iQTS and PGCEi courses are rigorous, robust, and highly regarded. Warwick graduates are now working in FOBISIA schools throughout the region.
Led by experts from Warwick, both programmes have a 6-day virtual induction, unique fortnightly interactive online workshops, and are supported by international school leaders. An externally assessed teaching practicum is compulsory: 90 days for the PGCEi, 120 days for PGCE iQTS.
Primary iQTS includes an Early Years option (ages 3-7); Secondary iQTS is available in THIRTEEN subjects:
PGCE iQTS Art
PGCE iQTS Biology
PGCE iQTS Chemistry
PGCE iQTS Computer Science
PGCE iQTS Drama
PGCE iQTS English
PGCE iQTS Humanities
PGCE iQTS Mathematics
PGCE iQTS Music
PGCE iQTS Modern Foreign Languages
PGCE iQTS Physics
For the PGCEi, there are two phase-level specialisms:
PGCEi Primary
PGCEi Secondary
Teachers/schools can choose a face-to-face or online external teaching assessment visit; with a lower course fee offered for the online-only option.
Both the PGCE iQTS and PGCEi provide a blend of online and school-based learning opportunities, developing an evidence-informed approach to classroom practice within international school settings. The course is designed to fully cover the iQTS Core Content Framework, as appropriate for the Primary or Secondary phase (and specific Secondary subjects), taking account of the local context in which students are teaching.
Taught sessions and assessments encourage critical engagement with research and the implications for personal teaching practice.
Mentors are given access to our Postgraduate Award, which, for those who choose, can lead onto our MA.
MA PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
For staff already holding a PGCE (or for graduates from the PGCE iQTS or PGCEi) we also offer a fully online world-leading MA Professional Education. This three-module, 20-month course builds towards an extended individual research project on a chosen area of educational practice. Available on a UK fee basis, the programme represents exceptional value for money for international teachers.
Staff without a PGCE/PGCEi can join the MA via our Postgraduate Certificate Professional Education pathway.

About The Centre for Teacher Education
Warwick’s Centre for Teacher Education is the University’s global-service provider for high quality teacher training and professional education.
We view our Initial Teacher Education programmes as the beginning of a teacher’s professional development journey.
The Warwick Teacher Values affirm our commitment to developing teachers who are just, curious, and creative and who contribute positively to every child’s educational progress (including SEND and EAL pupils). Value-based strands run across the curriculum, with progression of knowledge and skills linked to these principles. The UK’s Core Content Framework is mapped and integrated across this value-led curriculum model.
Warwick trainee teachers are encouraged to explore their motivation for choosing to enter the teaching profession, going beyond the functional and into their core values, providing a strong foundation for development during their early career teacher (ECT) phase.
