FOBISIA is a founding member of the British International Schools Safeguarding Coalition. (BISSC)

FOBISIA prioritises the safety and well-being of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers in Member schools to actively support this priority. FOBISIA Member Schools are required to comply with FOBISIA's Code of Conduct and uphold the highest standards of safer recruitment, safeguarding, and child protection. Adherence to such standards is a requirement for the continuation of membership. 

As part of the safer recruitment process, FOBISIA expects schools to conduct extensive background and reference checks. In line with best practice, it is expected that a recruiting Headteacher will speak with the Headteacher of an applicant's school to verify information provided through a reference.
